Spike Island, Bristol
Once a Victorian tobacco warehouse on Bristol's harbourside, this top floor loft had been fitted out in the 1990s with a dated kitchen hidden behind a partition wall. Taking the wall out revealed the full length of the building.
Warm grey fluted cabinets now run along the exposed brick, facing a long brushed steel island where the family cooks and eats. The original cast iron columns and timber joists were cleaned and painted rather than boxed in.
Tall arched windows look straight out over the moored boats, and a single polished concrete floor ties the kitchen, dining and living areas into one space.
