Alderley Edge, Cheshire
The washing machine in this family home used to live in the kitchen and the drying lived everywhere else. Converting part of the integral garage gave it a room of its own.
A stacked washer and dryer sit in a tall cabinet, with soft grey green doors, a quartz worktop and a proper sink for soaking. Overhead, a traditional wooden Sheila Maid airer on a pulley dries a full load without taking up any floor space.
A black and white checkerboard floor and simple panelled walls make an everyday room feel like a pleasure to be in.
