Keswick, Lake District
With two spaniels, three children and the fells on the doorstep, mud was winning in this slate farmhouse. A disused back porch has been turned into the room that stops it at the door.
Ochre painted cabinets hide coats, dog food and cleaning kit, with a deep Belfast sink set into a thick oak worktop. A raised slate shower tray means the dogs get rinsed off before they reach the kitchen.
A long oak bench with a boot rack underneath sits against the old stone wall, and the stable door means the top can stay open on fine days.
