Clapham, London
This south London Victorian terrace underwent a dramatic transformation with the addition of a full-width rear extension, opening up the ground floor into a single flowing kitchen, dining and living space.
The extension features floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that dissolve the boundary between inside and out, flooding the space with natural light. Structural steelwork allowed the removal of all internal walls, creating a generous open-plan footprint.
Materials were kept calm and simple. A pale limestone floor runs from the kitchen straight out onto the patio, while a long charcoal Shaker island, finished in Carrara marble with a waterfall end, anchors the room. Two rooflights and an oak lined window seat bring light into the darker middle of the house.
