Basement Dig Out with a Family Den and Lightwell

Kentish Town, London

Digging out under this Victorian terrace has added a whole new floor, with a family den that feels anything but underground.

A walk on glass panel in the garden above and a sunken lightwell with glazed doors bring daylight deep into the room. The walls are lined in pale oak joinery with a built in sofa, shelving and a TV, and the floor is warm polished concrete.

Behind the scenes, the house was underpinned, waterproofed and fitted with a sump pump, all without disturbing the street.
