Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire
A row of Victorian stables in red sandstone had been sliding into ruin behind this farmhouse. They have been carefully restored as a woodworking workshop and store.
The roof was stripped and relaid with the original slates, the timber stable doors rebuilt to their old pattern, and the soft sandstone repointed in lime. Inside, the original cobbled floor was kept in one stall, with a new concrete floor and power in the workshop.
Rows of tools hang above a long workbench, and the old hayloft is now dry storage for timber.
