Hexham, Northumberland
At the bottom of a big rural garden near Hexham, an old oak now holds a proper tree house, built for three children but secretly loved by the adults too.
The little cabin is framed in larch and clad in rough sawn boards, sitting on a platform supported by posts so nothing is bolted into the tree. A rope bridge links it to a second, smaller lookout platform, and a ladder and slide give two ways down.
Inside there is room for a sleepover, with a window looking out across the fields and a hatch in the roof for stargazing.
