Regency Drawing Room with a Sea View

Kemptown, Brighton

On the first floor of a white stucco townhouse, this drawing room was built to look at the sea. Two hundred years later, it has been restored to do exactly that.

The cornice and ceiling rose were repaired by hand and the walls painted a soft blue grey that changes with the light off the water. The two tall sash windows were taken out, restored and refitted so they slide up onto the balcony again.

A marble fireplace, an antique gilt mirror and a pair of facing linen sofas keep the room calm and let the view do the talking.
