Oak Panelled Library Snug with an Open Fire

Ludlow, Shropshire

Behind the Georgian front of this Ludlow townhouse is a much older timber framed building, and its back parlour has been turned into the kind of room book lovers dream about.

Every wall is now lined in limed oak panelling and built in bookcases, with a library ladder running on a brass rail. The small fireplace was unblocked and its carved stone surround cleaned back to show the original tooling.

A leather chesterfield, a worn Persian rug and a cushioned seat under the leaded window make it a room for long winter afternoons.
