Hyndland, Glasgow
Glasgow tenements were built with grand proportions, but the kitchen in this West End flat had been squeezed into a narrow galley. Moving it into the old front room gave it the space it deserved.
Inky navy Shaker cabinets with unlacquered brass handles run along one wall beneath a full height Calacatta marble splashback. The original cornice was repaired and the herringbone floor relaid in honey oak.
The three sided sash bay, once wasted space, now holds a round marble table where the family eats every day.
