Jesmond, Newcastle
This 1960s modernist house had been carved up over the years. Its restoration started by taking it back to the single open living space its architect intended.
A long walnut kitchen and matching island face a full width wall of new slim framed glazing, looking onto a garden of silver birches. The slatted pine ceiling was uncovered and refinished, and a polished concrete floor runs from end to end.
Cooking, eating and relaxing all happen in one long room again, with a teak table at the centre and a mustard sofa at the far end.
