West Bridgford, Nottingham
This 2000s detached house had a small lounge at the front and a dining room at the back that nobody sat in. Taking out the wall between them has given the family one long, bright room.
A steel beam now carries the floor above, boxed in and plastered so it sits neatly across the ceiling. New white bi fold doors open the dining end straight onto the decking and garden.
One run of grey wood effect flooring ties the two halves together, with spotlights throughout and a wall mounted TV over a floating unit.
