Highland Chapel Converted into an Open Plan Home

Beauly, Inverness-shire

Empty for more than twenty years, this small stone chapel outside Beauly has been turned into a single soaring living space without losing what made it special.

The dark timber roof trusses were left exposed above white boarding, and the three tall arched windows were repaired with clear glass so they now frame the hills. An oak mezzanine at one end holds the bedroom, with the kitchen tucked underneath.

At the heart of the room, a suspended fireplace and a long charcoal sofa make the huge space feel warm on the darkest Highland evenings.
