Garden Extension Living Room

Summertown, Oxford

Rather than knock through at the back of their 1930s house, the owners added a separate garden room: a quiet living space that feels a world away from the busy kitchen.

A pitched roof lined in pale birch plywood rises above exposed glulam beams, with a long rooflight running along the ridge. One whole side is slim bronze framed glazing, with a pivot door straight onto the lawn.

Underfloor heating beneath warm grey porcelain means it is used all year, and a built in bench seat along one wall gives everyone somewhere to sit.
