Basement Family Kitchen with a Sunken Garden

Belsize Park, London

Under this Victorian semi, a damp storage cellar has been dug out and tanked to make a bright family kitchen opening onto a sunken garden.

Full width black steel framed glazing leads out to a new lightwell terrace, planted with ferns. Inside, a long run of pale oak cabinets, a dark worktop and a polished concrete floor keep the space calm.

A long table by the glass means the family now spends most of the day downstairs.
