Rosemount, Aberdeen
This granite tenement flat had a front bedroom with lovely bones hidden under woodchip and a gas fire. Stripping it back revealed the original cast iron fireplace and a deep cornice.
The fireplace was restored and fitted with a simple basket grate, and a wall of square panelling was added behind the bed and painted a soft heather grey. The tall sash windows were overhauled and draught proofed for Aberdeen winters.
The pine floorboards were sanded and oiled, finishing a calm, bright room that suits the building.
