St Ives, Cornwall
Above the coast near St Ives, this terrace was built out from the slope to hold a long outdoor pool facing the sea.
The far edge of the pool is an overflow edge, so from the house the water seems to run straight into the Atlantic. Silver granite paving surrounds it, with a frameless glass balustrade and drifts of coastal planting.
A heat pump and an automatic cover keep it warm enough to swim from April to October.
